Hotel / Casino Ratings & Reviews The Riviera

Mixed reviews! Initially the first day we arrived it was like 2 am HORRIBLE FRONT DESK SERVICE! We had a confirmation for our rooms but that apparently didn't mean anything to them. Our rooms were already paid for and everything. But in order to confirm you have to show up in person and when we did our rooms were already taken! After countless hours spent upfront we finally got 3 rooms all split up in 3 different towers. They had to give us suites because the rooms we ordered weren't available. So I guess we didn't complain. Next morning we came down to switch rooms to our regular ones (otherwise they were going to charge us $200 extra per room per night for their mistake) and we miraculously landed on a fantastic front desk lady. She was so sweet. She even gave us a bunch of complimentary free tickets to shows on the strip which the other lady had not given us. Pretty much moral of the story is...if you come in to check in at night expect horrible service if you come in the am it's much better. The casino itself was ok. It's probably a 3 star casino based on comparison to Luxor ect. BJ tables are lively and hosts are nice. Food is ok. The Chinese place in casino is ok as well. I highly recommend the Mexican restaurant just outside the riviera about a block heading into the strip. Amazing tacos spicy pork and steak. Great price too. Overall experience at the riviera was ok. The only way I'd stay there again is if they offered me 2 free nights for a week stay.

Had lots of fun in casino. Low limit tables. Bingo was fun. Always stop there on my trips.

Quite suprised to see pole dancers working in the casino. Great idea...I am all for it.

Walked through here a couple days ago by far the nastiest casino I have yet to see hardly a soul in the casino severly run down I can honestly see this place hitting the wrecking ball soon

This was the worst hotel we have ever stayed in.

My husband and I faced racism at the 711 near the hotel and requested the front desk to help us document it. Nope. Front desk was rather rude and told us we are on our own regarding this. We didn't feel safe going back to 711 since they stated that since we were "chinks" (we are not Chinese by the way) and he would love to take us outside and smash our heads although we didnt do anything wrong or rude. The front desk did not want to know what happened nor willing to assist us. They sent us back to 711 ourselves.

If you try to look for a manager, they lie to you and tell you there are no managers available. I had to make a scene in order to meet the manager who turned out to be right there behind the wall all along.

By the way, do not visit LA SALSA restaurant at the food court of Riviera either. The staff there is racist as well and claims that "chinks are disgusting".

This was supposed to be our 2 year overdue honeymoon. Thanks Riviera for the dirty and disgusting rooms and facilities, 711 and LA SALSA restaurant for the racist jokes in public.

Stayed at the Riv Sept 7-11. I wanted to visit Vegas "old school" so opted for one of the older hotels. The beds were super comfy and every employee I dealt with was very nice. The bathrooms were smaller than what I'm used to, but hey, we stayed in one of the original rooms and they're over 50 years old. The rooms were dirt cheap and "Crazy Girls" was a great show. I don't regret staying at the Riveria.

Stayed April 26 thru May 3rd. Check in was smooth and staff was helpful and courtious. First room we were given was not made, went back to check in and was immediatley checked into another. Room was clean and comfortable. We initialy booked a smoking room, because my wife smokes. But cigarettes were not the only things being smoked, so we asked to be moved. We were treated very well and upgraded to the monte carlo tower, non smoking room.

Overall room very clean and beds were very comfortable. Service we recieved was very good. Would stay here again.

I really like the Riv, it has great staff and is very comfortable

5 Stars Sarah June 08, 2010

Older, but still a classic and very comfy.

2 Stars Sanriobaby June 08, 2010

Visited a friend that was staying and glad that I stayed elsewhere! My impression overall is that you get what you pay for here. The guests here were super trashy, and the slots weren't that great. The gift shop here was really cheap and I'd definitely visit just for cheap snacks and gifts. They had a nice Hello Kitty section too. Shop here but don't stay!

My husband and I stayed here April 25-31, we were very impressed by the remodeled rooms in the Monaco tower. The bed was the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in! If you stay in this hotel take the deuce not the monorail, we learned this a few days in and my feet thanked me for the switch. Hotel overall older than the fancier hotels but still very comfortable to stay in. The abc stores were very nice when you needed cheap water or soda after a long day of walking. Give this hotel a chance if you don't mind an older and classic vegas hotel.

My wife and I recently stayed here and found the remodeled room to be very comfortable. It did bother us that wireless internet was $10/day and the safe was $3.50 a day. Katy's Cafe has good moderately priced food.

3 Stars Eugene Kim May 10, 2010

Upon checking in they asked me for my credit card, but said "They would not charge a fee"

Upon checking out, they charged me a $7.84 energy surcharge. $3.92/night, for using electricity! Its not that we used much either, its a flat rate charge for everyone who stays at the hotel.

Three things wrong with this picture: The check in receptionist lied, the hotel was sneaky about its charges, and they charged me for the use of electricity

2 Stars Sylvia M. April 26, 2010

This place is so old and such a dump. We wanted to play here but it was so smoky and badly ventilated we couldn't stand it. On the plus side, the staff we happened to encounter when we were there was super friendly!

3 Stars Brian March 10, 2010

In Vegas, you get what you pay for. The Riv was not expensive at all. The room had been remodeled within the last few years, so it was surprisingly decent. The casino is super fiftie- style and really needs an update. Buffet was OK. I would stay there again for the value.

2 Stars kiya March 07, 2010

I had an absolutely abhorring experience here, this "hotel" is scary dangerous and unsafe! I was continually harassed catcalled with degrading remarks BY HOTEL EMPLOYEES! I filed a report with "security" who was untrustworthy and physically pushed me around. Please be safe and don't stay here! I have not been refunded for the unused portion of my stay and surprise surprise they're being completely uncooperative. STAY AWAY!!

3 Stars Neeska October 09, 2009

Clean, great rooms, great price, okay food selections, loved having the famous peppermill diner next door and a walgreens, but everything else on the strip was so far away.

0 Stars Cindylu & Gino September 09, 2008

Stayed at the Riviera four times, and LOVE IT. The rooms are clean, the staff is friendly and helpful. The casino is a lot of fun. Going back on 9/19/2008

I was looking for a less expensive hotel for a return trip to Las Vegas and I thought the Riviera would be suitable for the price. I was totally wrong. We arrived to find our room not ready, so they took our bags up there anyway and told us to come back in an hour. We came back two hours later and found our room still not even touched. Their only solution was to transfer us to a smoking room that looked even worse, with no accomodations for our inconvenience. The carpets were stained, the walls were marked, and the bathroom was disgusting. Worst of all, the customer service was terrible. The front desk was unhelpful and rude. The cleaning staff was just as bad, leaving food trays in the halls for over twelve hours and not cleaning our rooms until late in the afternoon. I have even stayed at the Westward Ho before and it was better than this. You would be better off staying at the rubble that used to be the Stardust and getting service from the guys that hand out pornographic cards on the strip.

I stay at the riv every year!I have never had a problem here. The staff is very friendly and helpfull. The rooms were very clean houskeeping was there everyday at the same time which I thought was nice.I also did well with the gambling. I would recommend it to anyone for the price you just cant go wrong.

Great fun, clean place to stay on the strip. Rooms were just remodeled, clean, although plain - but you won't be in them for very long! Great shows- good food, and one large casino to keep you mesmerized for hours! Give it a try!

0 Stars RateVegas.com User December 12, 2005

The nicest part of the Rivera was leaving. The staff at the checkin counter were rude. The non-smoking rooms were not available as promised. Gross bathrooms, black mold in every corner. The chair had been removed from the room nowhere to sit except the bed. View? what view? looked out onto the exhaust vents, NICE. Dazzle gift shop, didn't even bother to open Saturday, staff at the check out counter clueless. Would I stay there again? Not in this lifetime. And I am being kind!!!!

0 Stars RateVegas.com User February 08, 2005

Our room was comfortable and clean, with a great view of Circus Circus and the mountains beyond. Ok it's basic, but who goes to Vegas to sit in a hotel room? Great location for the strip and Downtown as well - we're coming back in 2005!

E&B xx

Both of us got lost in the Riviera just about every night we stayed there. The place is huge, and the floor layout of the main building is nonsensical. However, everyone was nice about helping us find our way. The room is clean, but it isn't fancy. The bathroom floors can be very slippery...use caution there. The pool is very large, clean, and has a lifeguard on duty, but closes early. However, because the staff is so nice, I give this hotel an 8.

0 Stars lfegan May 31, 2003

Rooms are basic, comfortable and clean. We arrived early in the morning, and were given keys to our room although it hadn't been cleaned yet. It was nice to be able to take our bags up immediately. We requested a room with a refrigerator, and got it for no extra charge. Maid service was exemplary.

As members of the slot club, we get very good room rate offers, and a Casino Host discounted those rates even more at the end of our stay.

0 Stars Nekosohana April 07, 2003

Stayed April 3-6. Decent hotel. Quite aged. Yet has many advantages such as location. For the price, not a bad deal.

0 Stars RateVegas User February 15, 2003

We were treated great. And we go back at least once a year. We take advantage of the free slot tournaments. And our rooms being reasonable.Never paying more than 20.00 dollars a night.

0 Stars RateVegas User May 28, 2002

Decent deal for the money.

0 Stars RateVegas User January 03, 2002

Have stayed many times at the Riv, only quite tower is the Monte Carlo, other towers have paper thin walls and I don't enjoy listening to other guests. Bathrooms are a joke, too little and too dark. We stay here when no where else is available, the casino is old but loose, tournaments are a ball and the hosts are mostly friendly.

0 Stars RateVegas User September 07, 2001

Our first time in Las Vegas (9-01). Check-in on Labor Day Sunday was smooth, although taking 30 minutes which was shorter than we had been led to believe. We were charged a $4.61 "reservation fee" which our travel agent had said nothing about. Baggage service was extremely punctual and friendly. Room was larger than some, and clean. Better than expected for a 46 year old operation. Bathroom was too small and had no place to set anything. Small makeup area outside bathroom was too dark to use. Elevators extremely efficient. Would stay here again due to value and location.

0 Stars RateVegas User August 23, 2001

We have stayed at the Riv several times. This time there were no rooms available for our dates, so we stayed elsewhere. We will not do that again. The Riv is very friendly and the slots club is very good. The hotel will accommodate in anyway they can to make guests welcome and comfortable. The other places we have stayed do not understand that we are the customer and they need to be friendly and helpful to get return business. The Riv understands this. Has our loyalty.

0 Stars RateVegas User February 05, 2001

Not a bad hotel, just a little long in the tooth. Quickly becoming a dinosaur in a city where anything older than ten years is ancient history. Staff were friendly enough. Food? I had a little too much drink to remember how good the food was. Thread bare in places, but for what I paid I can't complain. I liked the staff and would hope this hotel would rebuild or modernise.

0 Stars RateVegas User September 06, 2000

Fairly freindly service. Rooms, and bathrooms are average. Nothing spectacular. Decent bargain.

0 Stars RateVegas User May 02, 2000

Rooms are nice, but not spectacular.

Clean, quiet, elevators fast.

Room rate can change from very reasonable ($39) to outlandish
($110) overnite, seems more of a variation than others in the area.
