Excellent. Gotta see it if you're an Elvis fan or not.
Have seen this show twice and love the live music. I feel this show has not been given its due because we are so much about the now music and tend to dis great performers like Elvis and Michael
Loved it, we sat in the front row and it was like you were part of the dancers. I was expecting an Elvis impersonator but I'm glad there wasn't one. The dancers were great and so was the singing. One of the best shows we saw.
Enjoyed the show v much great story line, vocals great, performers great, the super hero scene was amazing.... Go see!!!!!
Wow what a great show anyone that doesn't like it is an idiot. Great show
Thought the show was brilliant, fantastic energy, great entertainment and the super hero section of the show was amazing!!
I tought the show was great. I think the last reviewer was a bit harsh on the cast. You have to understand that the show is filled with very talented people. Some are singer, some are dancers, some are musicians and many are the acrobats who have all trained hard to do what they specialize in. In a Cirque show, and I have seen them all, these performerscare asked to fill many roles. So in many of the dance scenes that involve many people, most are the same guys you saw on the trampolines or doing the amazing aerial acrobatics, etc... They are not the professional dancers. They finish their act and then rush off stage to put on another costume ( quickly, hence the plastic head pieces and jumpsuits for the many Elvis impersonators) and then have to do their best to match the pro dancers while still exhausted from the acts they just finished. It is a physically demanding show for them and I applaud them. Also it is first a Cirque show and then a tribute to Elvis not the other way around. If you want complete reverence to the King then watch the Biography Channel. All I have left to say is, Great Show! Great Acrobats, Great Singers, Great Musicians and an Amazing Set. Oh yeah....Great Music from Elvis!
I liked this show but it could have been so much better.
I'm only a casual fan of Elvis. I don't own any of his music or movies but I've always liked and respected what he had done. After watching this show, I felt like I became more of an actual fan and then found myself offended by the quality of the show.
I loved the biographical story telling but I felt the cirque elements, in many cases, distracted me from watching what I came to see, Elvis. The show has some really great elements to it. I really enjoyed all footage of Elvis they projected and wanted to see more. I loved the "Jailhouse Rock", "It's Now or Never" (AS A TANGO) sequences and everything except the singer in "I Can't Help Falling in Love".
I HATED when people, other than Elvis, were singing his songs. I didn't mind when they sang with him or as background but I don't care to hear someone else’s interpretation of his songs. I also found the Elvis impersonators in the show offensive. I know that isn’t the intent but the bad replica jumpsuits and the plastic hair felt like they were mocking Elvis which I didn’t feel had any place in a show about him.
Lastly, I wanted to say it was clear that many of the performers were phoning it in and just going through the motions. I understand the cast knows the show is going to be closing so they can rework it due to the shows lack of popularity. I also understand what that can do to moral, but to that I say what they often remark about in the NFL: When a team is losing so bad that the game is out of reach, it’s the effort you put into every play during that time that makes you valuable to a team. That’s how good players keep their jobs, effort & heart. I my opinion, every one of those people going through the motions should be fired the moment they shut down. They don’t deserve to be there.
At the end of the show, after seeing how hard Elvis worked, at everything he did, to give his fans the show he felt they deserved, I found myself almost infuriated at those cast members. How dare give a half-assed effort in a show about Elvis. How dare you!
I look forward to seeing this show after they rework it but I am very concerned about what direction they are going to take it. I only hope they remember that this show should be a celebration of the life and career of Elvis Presley.
Wow - Viva Elvis should have been awesome, but instead of being committed in the design of the show, they only went halfway. For example, the Jailhouse Rock set was massive and the wire-work was cool, but it seemed the set was the focus and not what they were doing on it. There were great parts - the trampoline portion, the rings acrobatics, boot camp - but then other portions just fell flat. Overall the acrobatics and specialty performers were very impressive (even the rope twirlers) but in many cases they didn't blend with what else was happening on stage. Often I was focused on the videos of Elvis on the big screen instead of the dancers. And speaking of the dancers, I don't know if it's because they know the show will be closing for a rework or if they hate their job, but most of them were half-assing it - compared to the images of Elvis' energetic performances, it was painfully obvious. I loved the narrator - he gave direction and character to the story. I didn't expect Love - that works because of the Beatles music - but I expected the same creativity in the show. All that said, I'll be interested to see it after the rework to see if it's any better. And I have to agree with the others- the long-haired drummer was amazing!
This was entertaining, but was not what I expected. It is not very Cirque-like, but the music and choreography was great. Like the others said, the drummer is great to watch! Some of the footage and pics of Elvis were new to me, so I enjoyed it.
This sow was AWESOME! There was so much to see I did not know what to look at. There are very talented acrobats in this show. It is very much worth the money we paid for the tickets! If you love Elvis, you will love this show!
Very good show must see
Mixed feelings on this show. I enjoyed it but it was less a Cirque show, more a musical. Viva Elvis was half singing and dancing and half acrobatics. What was performed was great and I can't complain about the quality. I was hoping for more of an abstract, dreamlike quality throughout the entire show then what Viva Elvis gave me. Especially this narrator, "The Colonel", that pops in to talk about what the audience will be seeing next. It was odd because Cirque shows don't normally have someone holding the audiences' hand through the performance and informing us on what we're going to see. Plus, the narrator was corny and got very few laughs. How about a little leas conversation, Viva Elvis? *Badda bump ching* But the live band on stage was awesome, ESPECIALLY the drummer with long hair. Couldn't stop watching him jump around!
Great show
This show was a delight for the senses. Extraordinary acrobats, dancers, musicians, all choreographed with state of the art video and re-mixed Elvis music on a large screen. This show is a must see for anyone who loves anything retro.
Absolutely the best cirque du sole we've ever seen! This show brought another level to cirque...beyond the amazing acrobatics was the emotion and heart of the Elvis story. Loved loved loved it!!!
Wow what a great show . My favorite. Definatly will go again. Elvis would be proud. Six stars
The antithesis of Love, but just as good. Elvis has conventional theater seating in front of stage and live band vs Love's theater in the round with recorded music. Great acoustics. Drummer was crazy wild. Nice show with plenty of Cirque acts to satisfy. Put this on your list.
One of the better cirque shows. Highly recommend. You leave there smiling. The drummer was fantastic.
Awesome show! The music has been adapted and is excellent. The dancing are great and the acrobatics are originals!
Expectations weren't too high when we saw it last Saturday (for $88 each--a bargain), but the show was great. If you like Elvis' music you'll like this show. If you don't, you won't. Unlike LOVE which is an allegorical journey into the beatles music, this show is a literal interpretation of elvis' life and career. Few surprises but well done with a live band and live support singers.
Everything I have come to expect from a Cirque production combined with all the flair and explosiveness that can only come from the worlds first and greatest rockstar!!! Truly an amazing show. The stage, dancers, performers, all in sync. Exciting, romantic, a wonderful Elvis experience and worthy of a look. Sang along with the whole show!!!
Very nice and state of the art theatre. You can't touch Cirque's eye for talent and use and creation of new technology. But for me, there was too much artistic dancing and not enough amazing feats of human ability. Or what I had come to enjoy about some of Cirque's other shows. If you like a lot of dance in your show, you'll probably like it. I won't see it again. But the band is amazing!!!
We went to see the new Elvis show it was entertaining but not nearly as good as love i was little disappointed
I loved this show! Saw this one along with KA and O last week. Viva Elvis was my favorite. Very energetic and lively.
It is a disaster. Whether or not you like/love Elvis, this spends most of the time between boring and cringe-inducing, especially the folksy character of the Colonel speaking nostalgically of Elvis.
They really missed it with this show. We have seen virtually all of the cirques and this was by far the worst. See the Beatles if you want to enjoy music. Elvis almost blew out our eardrums out and the dancing was not always spot on.
A solid show on opening, the music treatment was good, and the cirque acts were exceptional. I think they need to work in one or two acts, and reduce dancing a bit, and this will be great.
Great show! Just leave the music alone.
What a disapointment, this was not show fit for a king! After seeing the love show many times I had made the comment wouldn't it be great to do one for elvis, well ,they botched it which is surprising from a show by cirque.unlike the love show, which is the actual music from the beatles cleverly remixed.the Elvis show suprisingly did not copy this wining formula.they rearranged hit Elvis songs to unrecognizable versions, complete with girls singing Elvis songs.I went there to here the best voice in history not cheap cover versions. However there were some highlights, they all accured with Elvis singing his own songs.the live band added a nice punch!
I will preface this by saying that I am an Elvis fan.
I saw Viva Elvis on Christmas Day 2009. I had scoped out the gift shop the day before and bought some Elvis stuff and took some pix of the exterior of the theater which, even if you do not see the show, is pretty cool.
I sat in the upper deck of the theater about 3 rows from the front, great seats. Very diverse crowd here. The show is supposed to be the life story of Elvis as narrated by Colonel Tom Parker. The music is played by an awesome live band and sung by Elvis along with some duets sung live. The individual skits, if you will, were well done but it seemed a bit disjointed. The superheros, jailhouse rock and suspicious minds were all top notch.
I really enjoyed the music and most of the skits but unlike other cirque shows, BeLIEve excluded, this one didn't flow as well as expected. I'm sure like all other CDS shows they will continue to tweak and improve it as it progresses. If you are an Elvis fan than i recommend seeing it.
It's not the best Cirque show, and might be a bit of a misfire, but see it if you like Elvis or want to take in some above average acrobatics and great dancing. Hopefully the Col. Tom Parker character has been eliminated or had his dialogue re-written because he is #OMGsoannoying!!!
Some cool surprises. Safe for families.
Awesome theatre.
Fun show! Was recently reset to original music.
Saw on 2/17. Gymnastic number with "dead twin" to the tune of One Night With You was a bit on the Creepy side, but all in all not bad. Good music, entertaining cast, it was fun. Jail house rock was excellent. Scarves fell from the ceiling, a good time was had by all.
The Cirque flair is definitely missing however the performers are talented and the music is good and mostly live. Elvis fans will be satisfied and Cirque fans will want more. Given the current ticket prices I would pass on this show for at least a year. Love has way more going on than this show.
Saw Viva Elvis Mon Jan 25. My wife's succint review: "Once again (like Love), it really isn't a Cirque show." By which she means that the integration of music and action as in Mystere, O, or Ka isn't there - the music drives the show. It also still feels like a work in progress; segments drag. We were upgraded to orch. seats from balcony as we were going in - low ticket sales?
Haven't seen the show yet but booked with the concierge who was extremely helpful and patient. Cost for cheapest seats was a little more than expected ($145 incl tax/fees for upper balcony). Looking forward to it!
from the strip to get onto the casino...at lest 30 minute walk. no cell phone works inside the hotel due to some problems. they still have so many glitches such as billing and the phones inside the rooms. restaurants have great service...however buffet is not anything to talk about. service and buffet is very bad...we had it on a saturday and the foos was very bad.
